Take It or Leave It

Ke Nako-ness.

I am finally posting the pictures from the World Cup kick-off celebration. It has only taken me 6 weeks. What a fun day it was indeed. It opened the best month of my year thus far. We felt it, it was here and then left carrying the trophy. If I had known what was in store for me from 11 June to 11 July 2010 I think I would have taken more vitamins, gotten more exercise, had more drinking practice and bought warmer clothes. Sheesh I had a lot of fun!

P.S. Well done Spain. I won the office prize pool by the way. Awesome stuff.

Collaging

About two weeks ago Sauzier and I made a collage for Louise as a gift for her housewarming. I liked the way it came out and thought I would make my own. How basic, yet how lovely. Reminds me of how blessed I am to have such wonderful friends in my life.

 Love you all!

Lyric of the Day

I have had an intense love for this song for about 10 years. It always reminds me of the scene from Almost Famous where the band sing it in the bus when they are on tour. As they reminisce, I do. It puts me in a really happy place. It is melodic, well-written, sincere and simply beautiful, the way a song should be. Thank you Elton, you and your sunglasses.

"Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand...

...Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
you had a busy day today..."
- Tiny Dancer by Elton John

My New Obsession

One can't really sing along to a drum and bass track but I have ruined this song and hum to the bassy track. Pendulum have brought this music to the masses. I saw them 4 or so months ago at Ramfest. What a treat. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Lyric of the Day

I love Sublime. Their easy skanking sound and care-free attitudes make me happy. My boyfriend says it is because they are stoners. No lies there. I think this "care-free" attitude is perfectly reflected in this song which I have been playing on repeat in my car. I tend to do that, "kill" songs. Song Assassin, guilty-as-charged. Hey, if a song is rad, I can't help it. Right now, I need chilled music. I have had a cold for over 3 weeks, damn shitting sore throat won't leave my body. Please be gone demon sore throat. My last resort is a course of anti-biotics, to which I am opposed. I hate the meds. I am a hippie when it comes to medication and would rather dose myself with vitamins and herbal remedies for weeks before considering the option of destroying my body with chemicals (says the drunk). So I leave you with the song that has been my remedy for the last month or so. It says the things I have not been able to. As for weeks as I have not wanted to get out of bed... Ah Sublime, thanks for leaving me in a good mood.

"...I don't wanna watch no porno
I don't wanna play guitar
I don't wanna spank the monkey
I don't wanna go down to the corner bar
And I ain't even got to listen
To all the stupid shit you got to say
I don't wanna do a god damn thing
'Cause I ain't gonna leave my bed today

I don't wanna
I don't wanna leave my bed today

I don't wanna
I don't wanna leave my bed today

I don't wanna
I don't wanna leave my bed today

Keep on skankin' Ronnie
Skank the night away
But the time is coming
For us all to pay (pay)

I don't wanna eat burritos
Or read about OJ
No, I don't want to get a head rush
'Cause I aint even gettin out of bed today..."

Lyric of the Day

So the football world cup has come to a close and we spent the final at the Elkah Fan Park in Soweto. I have never been mistaken for a tourist in my own country, nevermind my own city, so much. I was just taken aback at the assumptions people made. You are white, you must be foreign, and wealthy. The general approach towards us was friendly but sometimes people were a bit pushy and too confrontational. I would think that 16 years down the line the assumptions would be gone that the only white person to come to a township would not be a tourist and perhaps the very person that lives in the city. Overall the vibe could not be paralleled and I had the most incredible time. I would like to thank FIFA, and most importantly South Africa for hosting the best World Cup in (my) history.

"Don't call me white, Don't call me white
Don't call me white, Don't call me white..."

Take It or Leave It

“Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting ‘Holy shit…what a ride!’”

Lyric of the Day

"I wanna be a billionaire so fricking bad
Buy all of the things I never had
Uh, I wanna be on the cover of Forbes magazine
Smiling next to Oprah and the Queen..."

Lyric of the Day

I have a mad obsession with swing and jazz, and feed this obsession by listening to neo-swing bands such as Squirrel Nut Zippers and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. I absolutely love this music video and song by the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Pure genius. Something a little different, something a little crazy, just up my alley. Plus I have a little obsession with animation. Enjoy!

"Met the Ghost of Stephen Foster at the Hotel Paradise
This is what I told him as I gazed into his eyes:
"Ships were made for sinking,
Whiskey made for drinking,
If we were made of cellophane, we'd all get stinking drunk quite faster "..."
- The Ghost of Stephen Foster by Squirrel Nut Zippers
