Jozi Night Sky

I walked outside this evening to see the most magnificent sunset forming overhead. It has been raining for days and this was the first sunset I have seen in a while. I quickly grabbed my Nikon and took some pics. I don't think they do justice to what I saw, but they are still gorgeous nonetheless.

Enjoy!

Lyric of the Day

"Seize the day,
Take your beatings,
Lead the way,
Or decay as you fall down...
You fall down..."
- Bleeding is A Luxury by Atreyu

This is about as positive as Atreyu gets. I'll take it.

It is relevant to me as I have just started a super strict eating plan. I shall take this beating and if I fall down I shall decay. Okay, reading into it a bit much but I have been listening to their new album.
This eating plan is all part of my implementation of my year plan.

This is of course my year of personal reinvention.

Here is a smattering of some of my resolutions (if you will)
- I will no longer abuse my health or body
--- this extends to what I eat, drink, and my personal relationships.

- I will no longer "mess around",
---as the saying goes, "how can you expect someone to respect you if you have no respect for yourself".

- I will better myself financially,
--- I have made steps in the right direction in terms of this already. I have formed a company with Paul.
--- I will also invest wisely
--- I will also no longer make emotional purchases when it comes to things. I will weigh up the options and look at it from a logical angle.
--- I will also continue to save as I have been doing, my dad always says "pay yourself first".

- I will also continue to strive to live my authentic life.

- I will always seek to be kind to others (within reason haha) and will be as giving as I have been (within reason too).

- I will read more...

Lyric of the Day - 22 January

No matter how much you can will a person to change, there is nothing you can do in your powers. Still inconsiderate and mean. Hopefully you will see the error of your ways, and then we can mend this silly thing.

Yes, I am still being let down by those I hold closest to me... my friends. Ahhh, but "I ain't worried"...

"I ain't worried about a god damn thing,
I hear them talking. I ain't listening,
Listening,

I take chances that most won't take - Right,
I get knocked down I won't break,
Get it clear and make no mistake,
This town's filled with rattlesnakes..."
- I Ain't Worried by Rancid

24th in 35mm

I collect old cameras. I have an Agfa Optima Flash Sensor. I think it may have been my Aunt Marion's camera back in the day. It was first manufactured back in 1977. I know, ancient right. I thought why not slap some film into the old gal and see how she goes. So I gave her a test run using my dogs as my unwilling victims and then unleashed her on my 24th Birthday party guests. I think the results are pretty awesome. I like the grainy quality and where some of the images are slightly burned out. The flash is INTENSE! Just ask my friends. I shall be using this old gal more often... ENJOY!

Torn Between Two Cities

I have to apologise for the two week long hiatus in posting. I have basically just arrived back from Cape Town (okay a weekend has passed) but I have just gotten back into the swing of things.

I am in love... with Cape Town and Johannesburg. Cape Town is the city I was born in and holiday in. Johannesburg is the city I was raised in and currently live in. I love them both so dearly.

When I left Cape Town I was so deeply saddened and my heart did break. I got home and sobbed. Most would put it down to post-party depression. However I leave behind my family whom I miss the entire year... and now little Ben is there.

I feel the same way when I look at Johannesburg, the city that has shaped me. It is vibrant, aggressive, fresh and exciting. Qualities that I admire. I am a proud Jozi Girl!

I had such a wonderful holiday in Cape Town. I loved spending time with my family. Laughing with my gran, taking Ben for beach front walks with my aunt Tracy, admiring the city and mountain in the setting sun as we set sail into the open ocean one Saturday afternoon. Shopping and walking the streets of town with my sissy, Cayla, and partying with my coz Jess... What fun!

Cape Town has such an arty, quirky vibe about it which filters down to the people. The uber-trendy, too-cool-for-school scene kids have more tattoos than I could dream of, wearing clothes I think my mom has thrown away. It makes me want more tattoos! I too want to sit at the one of sidewalk cafes and sip on an organic coffee latte as we talk about Sartre. You know I am only kidding right. This is simply an observation (my sister and I on the Cape Town kids)

I think the main difference between Cape Town and Jozi are the drivers. Jozi drivers are impatient and aggressive whereas Cape Townians are chilled and have no sense of urgency. I don't mean this in a nasty way. This is simply an observation that I know every South African is well aware of.

I would love to post all the wonderful pictures that I took documenting my holiday. However my newly acquired Casio was pinched, along with my cellphone, at pumpkin hour, on New Years. It's always fun to have your possessions stolen when you are celebrating. However I soldiered on and had a cool, memorable holiday nonetheless.

I hope to have some pics sent up that I took on my Aunt's cam whilst we were on the Sunset Cruise. If I receive these I shall post them and thus share with all you lovelies!!
