Pinkiefest 2009

So we donned our pink clothes and whatevers and headed out to the Sandton Country Club for free booze and bands. We got ever so tipsy, we had ever so much fun. It was in aid of charity and that is never a bad thing. The bands were not so great though, but who cares when you are wearing pink and drinking free SAB products. WOOHOO!

I'm just going to say it...

"I fancy you
But I've been destitute
And all I know dissolved
I could never reundo you...

I will always bleed the truth
I will always speak and know
I was sent to cut you loose
I will never reundo you"

and The

Caught the Desmond and the Tutus at the Hilson Park Bowling Club. I also caught a chip to the tooth (read teeth) when I took a sip from my quart of Smirnoff Storm, that I had just purchased up the road from the shebeen. I know, classy ek se. The hall was decked out like it was a 90's American prom, very cute. Balloons and streamers, they even had a hand made Desmonds banner. The lighting was left to the stage. It was truly an experience... and did I mention that we got in for free. aaaaaahhh

Lyric of the Day

I'm just so sick of head games...

"Hold me back: I'm going to throw it all down on the table.
Do you expect us to believe in these fables?
Oh, what to do with you? with you, with you, with you?
Hold me tight, it seems all I really have is in front of me, is the rest just a dream or a fallacy?
Oh, what to do with you? with you, with you, with you?"

Lyric of the Day

I have picked this lyric in honour of my seeing the wonderful Desmond and the Tutu's tonight. I am oh so very excited! They always put on a vibey, sweaty, fun-filled show, and I doubt tonight will be any different. I cannot wait to sing along and dance the night away.

"Old girls, they just wanna dance,
They don't want to kiss and make you feel better,
And old girls, how they move and prance,
And I deciphered that you'll never be together"
- Old Girls by Desmond and the Tutus

Lyric of the Day - Wed 12th August

I could not fall asleep last night. Not for a lack of trying, there was a yappy little dog that I just wanted to throttle. I could not understand why, at 1 in the morning, it felt the need to express itself in the most high pitched of doggy barks. I was not impressed. Then I heard a gunshot. It was just outside my room, in the park by my house. The dog went quiet, then I heard the security guards shouting, the neighbours questioning, and all the general lying in the dark made-up noises one hears when one is panicked and your heart is racing. And at this point my full grown dog would bark and act like a baby. My mouth was dry, my eyes wide, I was on high alert, I was effing scared. I could see the torches searching the darkness behind me. My big baby lay on my bed, his heart racing like mine, I held my hand over his muzzle... he was not allowed to bark, not this time.

I love this country. I love it's people, it's landscapes, it's wildlife, it's future. I am incredibly patriotic but I do not like the crime caused by poverty. It is fucked up. At my previous job I used to handle the South African Tourism footage. It was like taking a virtual tour of this beautiful country everyday. There is only so much one can say about a country, but it takes one bad, personal experience to erase all the sunsets, and rolling hills from your mind. It may not have been a bad personal experience for me. I have had my fair share though, but I do not allow it to get me down, oh no Sir. I just keep on going.

And take your money"

Stuck in the Middle Ages

So my friends and I went on another one of our Saturday sessions. We started off at the Melrose Arch Mediterranean Market, and then moved to the Oriental Plaza. We like samoosas, a lot. Louise needed some material and we also got our hangover curing samoosas and milkshakes. We then decided to hit Museum Africa, on a whim. I haven't been there in years and it was refreshing to go somewhere where there was no cover fee and where the vibe was awesome. It is great to discover your city with wonderful, funny friends, and to document the whole thing. Here's a glimpse of my day and some of the weird and whacky things that inhabit Newtown's Museum Africa.

Lyric of the Day

I started a new job today. The time came for me to move on. I had grown as much as I could there. I was just beginning to feel emotionally drained. I have learned a lot from being there. I made wonderful friends, and will forever be grateful for having a job when others did not. I will look back on my time there with fond memories. I worked hard, but I played hard too. It may have been my first job but it taught me soo much. I will miss the people, I will miss the Friday evening drinks, but most of all I will miss the friends I made there, however I will see them often because they miss me too much already! But now onto new things, hopefully more creative things.

"I gotta take the time to get it right,
I gotta be the person I gotta be,
I gotta make a plan and now,
it's up to me..."

Urban Electric

The Woods in Newtown hosted another one of their epic street parties. However it rained so they had to move the street into Carfax / Loaded. Wow, I think they saved our asses from freezing. It was mighty cold. The lineup was awesome. I never go anywhere without my little cam and of course took smokey, blurry, out-of-focus pics to document the night. I was a little wasssshted. Forgive me. haha. Loved watching Zebra and Giraffe, Shuffleshame and of course one of my favourites, Desmond and the Tutus. Have a lookey at my night in piccytures...

Have Heart and Shipwreck A.D

I am smiling. I have been smiling since Thursday night. I finally went to a live show after a very long time. Have Heart and Shipwreck A.D. were touring the country. Have Heart are playing on every continent (except Antarctica) before they break up in mid October this year. The bands were tight. The crowd was excited, the crowd was made up of 90% bands. The fans were more than amped to see their bands play. Local support in the form of Facing the Gallows (a personal favourite), Go Go Bronco and New Found Disorder were brilliant and professional despite the obvious crappy sound. Another thing that is crappy, my pictures from the night. I made a choice to shoot in black and white. It was too smokey in there and my little 5megapixel cam was not having it. I tried to capture the insanity and intensity of the circle pit, but something like that has to be experienced first hand. Shipwreck A.D. were tight, delivering their brand of Boston hardcore fast, loud and with no apologies. I was stunned. Have Heart were the clear crowd favourite, and basically who everyone had come to see. Once again, I was stunned. I still have a silly grin on my face. The bands were amazing. I like smiling.
