HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

My friend sent this to me over email. Too good not to share.

"Good day Dear Friend.

I wanted to send you a holiday greeting, but it is so difficult in today’s world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So, I met with my lawyer today, and on his advice I wish to say the following:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the summer solstice (or winter solstice as the case may be) holiday, practised with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practise religious or secular traditions at all.

‘I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2011, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that South Africa is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.
‘By accepting this greeting, you are accepting the following terms:

‘This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

‘Disclaimer: no trees were harmed in the sending of this message; however, a significant number of electrons were slightly inconvenienced.’

Kind regards,
Dani."

Happy Holidays ya'll. Eat lots,
love lots, give lots and be safe!

Take It or Leave It

Dorothy Parker has to be one of my all-time favourite poets and writers. Her wit, wry intelligence and self-deprecating manner is too brilliant for well, words. She has stuck with me since covering some of her works in high school. I have always looked to her as the spinster who had a way with words, men and the bottle. She was not a shy drinker nor lover. She told many a tale without a flush of the cheek. I admire her 'answer-to-no-one, no apologies' style. The next few posts and quotations will be featuring her quips and quirky comments. Do enjoy!

Lyric of the Day

My little bird... come back to me. I love you.

"Little bird, don't you fly away.
You're everything I need today.
It's cold and grey.
It's not so great.
My little bird, come back again.

I wake up and you're not there,
like a day without the sun.
I don't wanna sound depressed,
but you're everything I ever wanted.
What am I supposed to do,
without my little bird?
without my..

Little bird, don't you fly away.
You're everything that I need to day.
Well, the sun may shine,
the rain may fall,
with my little bird I feel nothing at all.
Little bird, come back again.

I go to the bar and order twenty four tequilas,
but without you to fall down with,
it doesn't mean a thing.
I'm so lonely without you.
What am I supposed to do,
without my little bird?

(skank it up, yo.)
Come back again.

Little bird, don't you fly away.
You're everything that I need today.
It's cold and grey.
It's not so great.
My little bird, come back again.
Little bird, come back again.
Little bird, come back again.
Little, little bird, come back, come back again..."

Take It or Leave It

I am the combined effort of everybody I've ever known..."
