I wanted you, you wanted me

Tasha and Dima Get Married...

My two friends Natasha and Dmitry got hitched over this long weekend. It was probably one of the most beautiful weddings I had gone to in forever, and Tasha honoured me by asking me to be a bridesmaid. The venue was Glen Afric lodge (I am totally getting married there!). With a backdrop of zebra, giraffe and warthog they got married under a tree in the bush... It was gorgeous and intimate. The reception was fun, yum and full of friends. Good time, good wedding! Did I mention the cake... WOW!

Lyric of the Day

It's amazing how some songs just seem to be written for me. Sounds silly I know. This song really resonates with me. I need to reassess it all!

"When she was 22 the future looked bright
But she's nearly 30 now and she's out every night
I see that look in her face, she's got that look in her eye
She's thinking how did I get here and wondering why

It's sad but it's true how society says her life is already over
There's nothing to do and there's nothing to say
'Til the man of her dreams comes along
Picks her up and puts her over his shoulder
It seems so unlikely in this day and age

She's got an alright job but it's not a career
Whenever she thinks about it, it brings her to tears
'Cause all she wants is a boyfriend, she gets one night stands
She's thinking how did I get here, I'm doing all that I can

It's sad but it's true how society says her life is already over
There's nothing to do and there's nothing to say
'Til the man of her dreams comes along
Picks her up and puts her over his shoulder
It seems so unlikely in this day and age

It's sad but it's true how society says her life is already over
There's nothing to do and there's nothing to say
'Til the man of her dreams comes along
Picks her up and puts her over his shoulder
It seems so unlikely in this day and age..."

Lyric of the Day

These lyrics are amazing!!! So I felt a verse would not do and the whole song had to be shared...

"I got a story it's almost finished,
And all I need is someone to tell it to;
Maybe that's you.

Our time is borrowed and spent too freely.
Every minute I have needs to be made up,
But how?
I'm looking for a nice way to say, "I'm out."
I want out.

I fall asleep with my friends around me,
The only place I know I feel safe;
I'm gonna call this home.
The open road is still miles away.
Aint nothing serious,
We still have our fun.
Oh we had it once.

But windows open and close,
That's just how it goes.

Don't it feel like sunshine after all?
The world we love forever, gone.
We're only just as happy
As everyone else seems to think we are.

I'm in love with the ordinary;
I need a simple space
To rest my head,
and everything gets clear.
well I'm a little ashamed for asking
But just a little helps,
It gets me straight again;
Helps me get over it.

It might seem like a dream
But it's real to me.

Don't it feel like sunshine after all?
The world we love forever gone.
We're only just as happy
As everyone else seems to think we are.

You should see the canals are freezing,
You should see me high.
You should just be here,
Be with me here.
It doesn't seem there's hope for me,
I let you down.
But I won't give in now,
Not for any amount.

Don't it feel like sunshine after all?
The world we love forever gone.
We're only just as happy
As everyone else seems to think we are..."

Lyric of the Day

I rejoined the Facebook world. It was time. I was missing all the friends in my life. Maybe feeling a little left out, out of the loop. It has been 6 months, and for a googler, blogger, tweeter like me, that is like 6 years. Let's see how long I last this time.

Bachelorette Balloon Rides

On Saturday was Natasha's Bachelorette Party (read failed Bachelorette party). I organised my ass off, and no one could make it and some never pitched. COWS!!! So in the end Natasha and I went on the "hot" air balloon ride alone, and it was AWESOME! Who needs disappointing friends? Montecasino has a hot air balloon that you can ride in. Very cool. So we bought tickets and saw Fourways from the sky. I think it was a rad way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Jozi City. The last Saturday that Tashy is in fact a single lady...

To Tash...
I love you my friend and am sorry things did not turn out the way you had hoped. I wish you the happiest marriage filled with joy, rainbows, sunshine, magical memories and of course love. I feel blessed to have you in my life and count you among my friends. I am honoured that you have asked me to be one of your bridesmaids. I will be there for you whenever you call and even when you don't. Looking forward to your big day on Saturday my beautiful friend! Here's to the future, it's a bright one!

Ramfest Emmarentia Dam 2010

Ramfest was two weeks ago, I know, but I took pics on my Agfa film camera and only got them back today. So I delayed the post by a while. No biggy. Besides, who really cares. Pics are a mixture of film and digital...
Anyways. Ramfest was cool. The mini version of the weekend long festival held in Cape Town was brought to Emmarentia Dam for us Jozi kids. I got there just in time to catch the last few songs of aKing. As you may know by now. I am a HUGE fan. They are insane. Such a great band.
aKing

I was more than looking forward to seeing Die Heuwels Fantasties and when they got onto stage it was all that I had expected and more. Goosebumps, sing-alongs, and absolute joy. I was soo happy to have finally seen them.
Die Heuwels Fantasties

Lark... enough said. Okay maybe not. The singer Inge is probably one of the most enigmatic, energetic and eclectic women I have ever seen. She is wonderful. She commands the stage and the attention of her audience. I am sad they do not play anymore. They were one of the most fresh acts on the South African scene. It was a treat to see them...

The night ended with a performance by the Drum and Bass act Pendulum from Australia. Awesome fun. Big win.

Kelly of the Clarksons

On Friday night I treated my soon to be married friend Natasha to Kelly Clarkson. Kelly ain't my thang, but Tashy enjoys her and I love to make my vriendin happy. We sang, we laughed, we blew bubbles, we talked shit, we sang and we waited out the very long traffic. It was an awesome night. I also loved the fact that I bumped into so many people I did not expect to see there. CAUGHT OUT!! It was fun partying with Sissy, Tashy and Mr Manners (Hop-Along-Tom). Ms Clarkson is very professional, and has an amazing live voice. She was definitely worth a watch. Good night out.

Rare Naked Choke

Last night I went to EFC Africa (Extreme Fighting Championship) with Dave and Colin. I live with an open mind and I feel that this was an experience that should not be missed out on. I had no idea what a big deal it all was. These fighters are in incredible shape and very professional. They live by and fight by a set of rules, and fight... in a cage. Yes, it was cage fighting. I loved it. It is MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), where guys take skills they have learned over their fighting careers like Judo and boxing, and combine them to destroy each other over 3 x 5 minute rounds. Many of the fights ended in 40 seconds. One guy was knocked out in 20. It was insane. These guys are well trained and tough. They are not your "average dumb boets who klap gym hard". These guys are slim but toned. Me likey! Santa... May I have one in my Christmas stocking? I will be a good girl, promise!

Take It or Leave It

"O curiosity, thou mortal bane!
Spite of thy charms, thou causest often pain
And sore regret, of which we daily find
A thousand instances attend mankind:
For thou-O may it not displease the fair-
A fleeting pleasure art, but lasting care.
And always proves, alas! too dear the prize,
Which, in the moment of possession, dies."
- The Moral from Bluebeard by Charles Perrault
(Charles Perrault's Classic Fairy Tales)

Lyric of the Day

When I have had a particularly bad day or am feeling really low, I find the only thing that I feel like doing is retreating into a song. I want it to consume me, and become part of my physical make-up. It sounds silly to want to become part of something inanimate but sometimes I feel it is the only thing I can relate to and want to relate to. The noise seems to drown out the world. You don't have to face that issue for those three minutes while the song is playing. I think this song says it best...

"Put the music loud enough to raise the dead,
Now build it up until my ears burn,
My body drops into another world...

And when I'm tired of walking alone,
I put my headphones on,
And when it's time to get out of it all,
I put my headphones on,
And when it feels like everything's wrong,
I put my headphones on,
And when it's time to get out of it all,
I don't want to listen to the static on the radio..."

Lyric of the Day

After a rather productive day at work, I was filled with relief and energy. I decided to take "Sonny Jim" Caesar for a walk around my area. These are the last few days of Summer, with Autumn rearing it's chilly head. So with Jimmy Eat World as my soundtrack I took in the evening.

"I'll accept with poise with grace,
When they draw my name from the lottery...

Get up, Get up,
Dance on the ceiling,
Get up, Get up,
Boy you must be dreaming,
Rock on young savior,
Don't give up your hopes..."

P.S. Thanks to Mr Manners for the Jimmy Eat World suggestion. It rounded my day off nicely!
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed them

Through This Defiance

On Thursday night I met Paul and his cousin at Doors to see Californian hardcore act, Through This Defiance. The turnout to support the guys was dismal. I am always saddened when bands pour money, heart and soul into a tour and are poorly supported. It does not bode well for us, as we should be supporting everyone who comes out to play. I was thoroughly impressed by their energy and professionalism. I will continue to support all the bands that come out to play for us, they have traveled far and it is the least I can do. Well done guys, awesome show.
